What this table gives. The cumulative left-tail area under the standard normal curve — the probability that a randomly drawn observation falls at or below a given z-value.

How to use it

To find the area for z = −1.23:

  1. Find the row for the first decimal place, −1.2.
  2. Find the column for the second decimal place, .03.
  3. The cell where they meet gives P(Z ≤ −1.23) = .1093.

z = 0.00 appears twice — as the last row of the negative table and the first row of the positive one. Both give .5000. The duplication is intentional, and preserves the symmetry of the two halves.

This page is generated by R/export_stattables_html.R directly from R’s quantile functions, and every value printed in the book was re-checked against the same functions when it was written. Do not edit this page by hand — fix the generator.
